Miami Nightlife on a brief Decline

I don’t know what it is about Miami Nightlife but there seems to be a loss in Electronic Music in the recent year. And although WMC is coming in the next month, the general public lacks the enthusiasm to go out and enjoy good music. I have found that the vast majority of high grossing clubs have resorted to bringing in special guests and have celebrities host their clubs for private parties in order to attract more individuals. The general promoter is now only producing about 5-10 heads with almost only 1 bottle purchase. If you do the math of about 5 promoters, the clubs are well under their weekend ranges compared to previous years. Yes we can call the economy a big factor in this but there seems to be other issues. The Djs.
During the 90’s, many to almost all party goers knew about what DJ was going to be performing. Most clubs packed in the events and kept the environment jamming till late hours. Come the new century, Party goers are resorting to ‘just partying’ rather than going to enjoy the djs. I have seen a drastic decline in respect given to well known djs. The growing youth interaction with Electronic music is leaving more and more djs to become “just another face on the decks.” We find ourselves today, in 2009, dealing with more promotional companies claiming they have the best djs and best parties in town. If you do attend one of these so called “events,” you will deff regret it. Not only do they allow 16 year old kids to enter the club, but they don’t interview the djs, don’t look for qualifications, don’t pay the djs or promoters and only concerned in the amount of guests you will bring to the party. In my opinion, this leaves you with  a bad party, a sucky dj and a waste of your time.

Many Djs are now resorting to laying low for a while, including those of Groovewaves.tv. After recent issues, many of our djs are feeling somewhat “discouraged” to play anywhere. The reputation of a dj has dropped completely in miami and will continue dropping until some of these promotional companies are stopped. They are damaging the nightlife and exploiting the scene.

This all probably doesn’t sound like news to anyone reading this but i just want to have it out there that some of us are very concerned with the scene and need to start seeking action. Join us in revamping the Miami nightlife and building it backup to where it should be. Lets give RESPECT to the djs, Build on their Music, and enjoy the time, effort, and stress they go through to make or break a good party ! It is not always about the promoter. Lets make the Scene back to how it was. LETS MAKE IT ABOUT THE DJS !!

  • Well said!
I also think that making dowloading illegal music makes it easier for any shitty DJ to download tracks and play the same upfront music as any other DJ. Back in the days I spend hundreds of dollars every week to get the newest tunes. Nowadays anyone with just a tiny bit of mixing skills, can download anything, and ask lots of cash for playing music. These DJ’s ruined the market. The real DJ skills are in building a night, take dancing people on a voyage, and knowing when to slow down or go up.

Well let’s hope that quality will win in the end.
