DJ RC, born Robert Cournoyer in Miami. DJ RC’s talents range from DJ, producer, remixer, station personality and the President of Groovewaves TV.
As a young boy RC was known for his dance moves. It was from his love of dancing that lead RC to the clubs of Miami. At the young age of 16 you would find him dancing with a crowd around him in the Kitchen Club, The Institute, or the original Cameo on South Beach. It was here that he grew to understand electronic dance music and what it took to keep the people moving. Loving what he was hearing, RC gathered all the information he could about the music, artists and what it took to play it. RC was off and running!
In 2000, RC built his first studio on the second floor of his construction business. Here is where he networked with other DJ’s and started pumping out demos. It was not long until one of those demos got in to the hand of a local club. Being as green as the grass, RC quickly learned what worked on the dance floor.
In 2003 RC entered the Cool Junkie DJ competition were his mix was given honorable mention. In 2004, RC re-entered the Cool Junkie DJ competition were he was one of the Finalist. Though he did not win, many people enjoyed his set. Here is a quote taken from the Cool Junkie message boards from members Bling and Patois “DJ RC concluded the spin-off, whose set established a strong tone from its beginning. The set started off slow and progressive and it kept building and building to eventually pound the audience with relentless beats. RC had awesome mixing abilities and a great track selection. He conveyed adept timing and instincts with crowd-escalating builds, then falling tides to bring back the calm. Bling’s favorite track was, of course, “Katana-Tribal Shock.” Bling, as well as others he talked to, believed that DJ RC was the favorite to win based on the combination of his tight mixing and well constructed set. As for Patois, maybe it was the hours she’d spent on the dance floor…the haze of smoke…the wooziness that had taken over her….but his set seemed the most surreal to her, even magic at times. The bass in some of the tracks was so strong that it shook the floor and made her lose her balance. The energy level was surging throughout. She took her leave at the end of his set, amidst clouds of cold mist pouring from the ceiling.
After three years of playing smaller gigs in Miami, RC wanted more! So, in 2007 RC launched Groovewaves. A live web based broadcasting station that gave the viewer a club like experience with out leaving their computer. Groovewaves has been watched by over 380,000 viewers with the help of the Groovewaves resident DJ’s: DJRC, Eyekon, Dimo, Joe Cozzi. Groovewaves also has showcased many guest DJ’s such as D.O.N.S, Ivano Bellini, DJ Kaenow, EDX, Roger Sanchez, DOONS, Jen Martinello, Rob Bello, Armand Pena, Roland, and UDM Messiah, plus countless of local DJ’s.
Along with DJ’ing and running Groovewaves. RC was been working hard in the recording studio. With two releases out on the Department of Dance record label this year, “No Way Out” and “After Hours Delight”. With four new tracks that will be out in 2009.
